Isn't the system open to abuse?
Yes it is, but think about it for a minute. The places we normally look for things are paid for directories, places where people pay to advertise themselves to tell you how wonderful they are in their own words. Are these vetted? No. Do these offer any guarantees? No. Have people been ripped off by services they have found in respectable paid for directories? YES!!
This site is populated by ordinary people who have used a service and would be happy to recommend it. Over time these recommended services will be further endorsed by other people who have also used the services of those who are listed. People will also report to us when they spot a service they know to be poor having used the service or by knowing someone who has and there is a link provided with every search result
so it's easy for you to tell us this. We fully accept that there is a degree of trust, many other online businesses rely on this also but in practice we believe the honest entries make up the majority of
the information and with careful policing by you and us we can keep
the bad guys out.
How can I help?
Add things you would like to recommend and tell your friends and
colleagues about the site and ask them to put stuff into it too.
The site is only as good as the information it contains and that's
down to you! Some people have emailed their local radio stations
and asked for the site to be mentioned on air, that's a great way
to spread the word.
Can I add myself?
No. We remove adverts, we only want recommendations. Anything that
looks like an attempt to add a false entry i.e. someone adding themselves
as a made up satisfied customer are also removed. Also, our users
police the site and tell us when they spot suspect entries.
What's the site aiming to do?
We aim to provide a directory covering the whole of the UK of services
etc that people have used and found to be good. Services that people
would recommend to their best friend.
Why is there no rogues gallery?
Creating a rogues gallery is a good idea on the face of it but it
presents a few problems. It would make the site very difficult to
police to avoid litigious allegations being posted. However, we
are not ruling it out for the future if we can figure out a good
framework for entries. Please email us with any workable suggestions.
Why is there nothing in my area?
The site is new and it will take time to populate. All we can do
is tell people about it - and we'd like you to do the same - so
the site becomes populated with all the valuable information locked
away in peoples heads and address books! Unlike search engines that
use software to go out and catalogue web sites we rely on real people
putting 'stuff' in.
Who's behind the site?
The site is owned and run by www.redevolution.com
a small but beautifully formed web company based in Aberdeenshire.
How did it come about?
The idea was tabled to some friends and colleagues at the University
of Aberdeen as a result of repeated requests, on a private mailing
list, for trustworthy tradesmen etc.
Will the site remain free?
YES!
